Small Town Christmas Means Big-Time Collaborations
And you’re invited to join!
Don’t let the name fool you - this year’s Small Town Christmas will take over Downtown Oneonta Friday, December 1st-Sunday, December 3rd, and represents a collaboration unlike any the community has ever seen.
Jeff Hallmark, Chairman of the Agri-Business Center Board says, “It is a dream come true to see the Chamber and OBA partner with us on this event. We are so thankful for this amazing opportunity and hope to make this one of the largest events for the kids in our community and those surrounding us.”
According to Daniel Clem, Oneonta Business Association President, “The OBA has worked diligently for years to make Oneonta a holiday attraction and shopping destination - from their window decorations to pictures with Santa. We hope that our investment in the Agri-Business Center’s Christmas event will further promote Oneonta businesses and provide much needed publicity for our events. We want Oneonta to be a place that people will want to include in their holiday tours.”
The event will kick off Friday, December 1, with carriage rides through the city and family fun on the ice skating rink, sponsored by King, Green and Dobson at the Agri-Business Center. The OBA's Community Christmas Tree Lighting will be held Friday evening at the Gazebo area at 7 p.m., where a special guest (aka Santa Claus) will join!
Saturday morning will bring a new twist to the Chamber’s annual community parade through downtown. Aimee Wilson, the Chamber Director, is excited about starting a new tradition for our area.
“Since I’ve been with the Chamber, one of my goals has always been to find ways to make any event we do better for the community. I am always looking for new and exciting adventures, and Small Town Christmas is going to be a start of an amazing new tradition for those of all ages here in Blount County. Plus, it gives the Chamber an opportunity to partner with two great organizations in the Blount County - Oneonta Agri-Business Center and the Oneonta Business Association to create a special holiday experience right here at home. Not to mention that an event such as this will attract families from our neighboring counties! As a Chamber, we are focused on both supporting our local businesses as well as tourism. And this event accomplishes both. We want to show others what a great place Blount County is, what great shops we have, what great restaurants we have, and what great people we have.”
The main event for the weekend will center around Saturday at the Agri-Business Center where friends, family, visitors and shoppers will be treated to hot chocolate, pop-up shops, ice skating and complimentary visits with Santa, courtesy of the OBA. The weekend will conclude on Sunday at the Agri-Business Center where families will be able to enjoy more of the same that afternoon!
As Jeff reminds us, “Christmastime is so magical, and we want to bring that special time of year to friends and families in our very own town. This effort and collaboration hasn’t happened before, and Oneonta is proud to host an event that truly encompasses the community Christmas spirit. We encourage families and friends to join us all weekend, and hope that this paves the way for more partnerships and celebrations of organizations coming together.”
Full weekend timelines and details will be available in the next couple weeks via Small Town Christmas-Blount County, AL on Facebook as well as on each organization’s pages and websites.
So mark your calendars for December 1-3, and stay tuned for how to get involved!
