Don't forget to come and support your home team at this year's Special Olympics scheduled for May 15 at the Blount County-Oneonta Agri-Business Center. We'll have fun sensory- based activities, music and special events. Please come and cheer on your school! Posters and supportive signage are welcome!

The fun kicks off at 9:00 a.m. and is sponsored by the Blount County Civitans.  Participants have to get physical examinations from their doctors to show they are able to compete.  They train with their PE and special education teachers to prepare for the event that include the 50- and 100-meter run/walk, softball/tennis ball throw, and the long jump.  The students compete against others within their own age group and paired with those with similar abilities.

First, second, and third place ribbons are awarded for each event.  All students receive a participatory ribbon.  There will also be other entertaining events such as face painting, bubble zone, sensory area, egg toss, and more to keep participants busy in-between the Olympic events.
